A lesson on Pelicans

I love blogging and making international friends. On two of my recent posts, I included photos of pelicans. I live on the East Coast of America, and I've only ever seen Brown Pelicans.
It turns out that the Brown Pelican is the only pelican with any brown on it!

A fellow blogger inquired as to why there was so much brown on my pelicans, and of course the answer is because they're Brown Pelicans. She had never heard of them, and sent me a picture of Australian Pelicans. (Thanks Mary!) They're beautiful!
The Australian Pelican is the largest of all the pelicans.

It's interesting to me that the Internet has made our world so much smaller. Most of the blogs that I read are about quilting and include any other tidbits of our daily lives. We're scattered all over the world, yet we're brought together because we have we have this one thing in common. I enjoy my little trips around the world and getting to know you, and hope to meet some of you in person some day.

  3. Oh I loved your post today. Pelicans are my absolute favorites. I could watch them for hours. We live very near Orlando with lots and lots of lakes in our area. We have several colonies of pelicans living near a couple of the lakes. It's so wonderful to look up in the morning and see 2 or 3 of them flying overhead.

  4. Sunny. Thanks for your nice comment on my site. I would like to say I LOVE your banner - so pretty. I had no idea about the pelicans. Now I'll have to check out the ones when I go to the beach (Pacific Ocean). I remember them as being brown. I live about 2 1/2 hours from the ocean - when I go I'll snap a picture for you. I see you are also doing Erik's Scrap Mystery quilt. We'll have fun doing that together.
