It’s a Shore Thing!

‘Of course’, I said when DH asked if I wanted to go to the beach for the weekend.  I always want to go to the beach.  It’s my Happy Place.  In a perfect world, I’d live at the beach!!  We don’t typically head for the beach on a holiday weekend, but the highways were not clogged, there was no delay at the Bay Bridge, and although the highway signs warned that Assateague National Park, was full, we were allowed in the park.  Our planned destination was the bay side of the island, in the hopes of doing some kayaking.  However, the parking lot was full, and we would have had to carry the kayaks at least a half mile.

How lucky for us!  We decided to drive down to the end of the road before turning around to leave the park.  But wait, what was down this road?  I don’t remember this road from before.  It lead to a small parking lot, with a tiny ‘beach’ along a marsh.  We found a great parking spot, and headed for the water.

This is where we were taking the egret pictures.  I thought it was a neat picture of DH.  Yes, we’re both in the water.

We were able to get fairly close to several of the wild ponies.

It was funny later when we were leaving the park, to see a Park Ranger shooing a pony across the road, and chasing another out of the middle of the road!  There are warnings  everywhere not to get too close, as the ponies can kick or bite.  But they can often be found in the parking lots, and people always try to get close to them.  I prefer to keep a safe distance.

I had no idea this parking lot or marsh were here, but I’m glad we found them – what a perfect afternoon.

These little Sika deer crossed the road in front of us  when we were leaving, then paused for a moment to pose for a picture.

Later, we found a place for a lovely seafood dinner, and then returned to the hotel for a dip in the pool.

It’s been a long day, and I actually did all the driving, so I’m off to do a little crocheting, and then an early bedtime.

Hope everyone in the US had a safe and happy 4th!

Be kind to duckies!      Sunny
