FNSI and Busy Weekend

Dh and I went out for dinner Friday night after I got home from work, so I got a bit of a late start on FNSI.   I almost decided just to go to bed early and not stitch, but I HAD to go down to the craft room to make a couple of cards.  Once I got down there, finished the cards, and started stitching, I couldn’t stop!

I put the final stitches on this cross stitch, which was a SAL from Blackbird Designs.  I’m not quite sure how I’m going to finish it, but I’ll play around with it this week.

Then I finished constructing this house, which I’m making for a secret project.  I need to add some hand quilting, and get it bound this week, and then it will be sent off in the mail to ???

I’ll get a better picture when I can photograph the entire thing.

The next project was to use up the leftover fabric from the scissor keeps that I made last week.  I started with two thread catchers.  I received one of these as a Christmas gift a couple of years ago (thanks Linda!) and I use mine every day.  I thought they would be perfect to accompany the scissor keeps.

I still had a little fabric left, so I made a couple of small mug rugs. 

Our local Hospice has a fund raiser each November, and they’ve put out a request for nearly 500 small mug rugs to be given out this year.  I figure I can made quite a few with some of my scraps.  I can’t throw out fabric, and none of these have to match anything, so you’ll be seeing more in the coming months.  I still had some very small scraps, so there will probably be a hexie flower mug rug or two!

On Saturday, we travelled down to Virginia for a family graduation.  It was a fun weekend of family, food, and celebrating!

 

 

 

 

 

On the way home today, we stopped at a garden center to buy a few more flowers.  At this rate, summer will be over before DH thinks he has enough flowers!

A Winning Week

Do you have a favorite pattern to use with Jelly Rolls?  I’ve never actually used a jelly roll, but I won one this week, and I want to make something special. 

Anne from Bunny Hill wanted to give away some extra fabric that she had, and I was one of the lucky winners!!  Imagine my surprise when I received an entire jelly roll. 

I also won a fat quarter bundle from the American Made Blog Hop.  Have you been following along?  They asked one blogger from each state to design a license plate using their fabric, and representing their state.  Each blogger is giving away a fat quarter bundle, and many are also having a secondary giveaway.  My name was drawn by Margaret from Maine.

The fabric is all made in the US, and it has a very nice feel to it.  I haven’t worked with solids very much, so I’ll be looking for a special project for this too.

Home Alone

Ahh..my last weekend to be home alone.  I don’t get alone time very often, and I love every minute of it!  This morning I got up early, got my chores done, and started stitching.

Have you seen this pattern?  It’s from Moda Bake Shop, and it’s very simple!  I was going to make 2 because I had plenty of fabric, but I made 4 instead.  I bought the fabric last week when Di forced me to go shopping.  LOL!

I also bought this fabric last weekend.I had seen this on Jenny’s blog, and knew I MUST have one.

I just have to get a hanger for it, and I’ll have no excuses for not being able to locate my crochet hooks. 

This baby quilt was finished last week, for May OPAM.  I finished it on my lunch hour on Friday, but I was headed out of town after work, and didn’t get a chance to post a picture. 

I’ve spent much of my time this weekend working on the SAL from Blackbird Designs.  I’m starting to feel pressured, because I know some stitchers have finished already.  Must.  Stitch.  Faster….   I’m not including a picture because I roll the fabric as I stitch, and it is not attractive at this point.

Because Mr. QD has been away, there has been no kayaking the last two weekends.  But I managed to fit in some hiking, sight seeing, and picture taking.  I leave you with these photos from yesterday.

Fun Fun Girls’ Weekend

What does a quilt blogger do when she’s in the mood for a getaway weekend?  Why make plans to spend the weekend with another quilt blogger of course.  I had the pleasure of spending my weekend with Di, of QuiltingisBlissful.  Di and I met last year when Mr. QD and I vacationed in the beautiful Finger Lakes area, and I spent part of a day with Di.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Di made the plan for Saturday, and we started out at The Windmill.  We found a little of everything at the Windmill – crafts, clothing, kitchen wares, plants, and food.  We each did our part to stimulate the economy.

Next up was a visit to two Quilt shops in the Amish surroundings.  At the first shop, I purchased a small amount of fabric for a couple of specific projects.

At the next shop, there was only a small amount of fabric for sale, but plenty of beautiful quilts to admire and drool over.

Before dinner, we made another quick trip to one last quilt shop, where I bought fabric for a Christmas gift that I have in mind.  The colors aren’t really this dark, but it’s late at night, and I can’t get a decent picture.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Dinner was a yummy seafood dinner at a restaurant right on the lake.  We then went back to her house for some stitching and gabbing.  Di has been working on cleaning, rearranging, and decorating, and her apartment is so adorable!  We have very similar tastes, and I would love to have her decorate for me.

Sunday morning, after sitting around gabbing for awhile, found us out sightseeing.  We found three beautiful waterfalls without driving very far.

And we both love flowers!
