Wrapping up a Purple April

Purple has been the April color for RSC15.  I don’t use a lot of purple, so the scrap pile wasn’t very big.  And now it’s practically nonexistent.
First up is a baby quilt that I needed for a special group.

Then I needed a Dresden plate for my rainbow collection.

I think I’ve decided what I’m going to do with the Dresdens.  More to follow soon about my plans.
I was also able to make a purple doll quilt before I ran our of scraps.

My stitcheries for the Val Laird BOM and for Jenny’s BOM were stitched earlier this week.  Needless to say, I’m not spending a lot of time with my iron at this point!

I received a very unexpected surprise birthday gift last week from my friend Di .The package included a beautiful table topper, a giant pin cushion, and a pair of scissors.

We’ve taken time out for hiking and walking and photographing more wildflowers this week.  Another walk is on tap tomorrow with a friend.  And then more stitching.  I spent much of today turning more scraps into placemats.  I’ll have several  of them to share soon.
We’ve been watching the news all night tonight with great sadness as protesters have been destroying parts of Baltimore with fires, looting, and violence.  I’ll never understand how thugs think this will solve any problems.  Please keep the First responders and good citizens of Baltimore in your prayers.

Weekend Getaway

No stitching here today, so feel free to click on to the next blog if you’re not interested in nature photos.
We spent the day in Great Smoky Mountain National Park yesterday, hiking and looking for wildflowers.  BIL and SIL, who live near here and are quite familiar with the area and the flora were our awesome tour guides.

I won’t even tell you how many pictures I took.  I just love that pixels are free!
Today was a drive along the Cherohala Skyway in NC and TN.  We started off with a beautiful waterfall and some more wild flowers, followed by some pretty vistas before DH got sick and we had to call it a day.

We will be returning home tomorrow if DH is well enough to travel.  Spring comes to our area a little later, so we can hopefully do some hiking near home and find more wildflowers in the next couple of weeks.  Despite his getting sick, this has been a wonderful trip, and we will be back.  Thanks B&J!!
Our regularly scheduled programming will return in the next post.   Until then….
Happy Spring!     Sunny

Happy Tax Day!

I used to always file my taxes in early February, as soon as I received my W-2.  The last couple of years have seen me racing to the Post Office on the 14th or 15th.  If I had done it earlier, I could already have my refunds, and have them spent!

I’ve still been stitching like crazy.  I spent a lovely day last week with my SIL and a friend, and whipped up this little cutie.  I got the inspiration from another blog, but I can’t remember where I saw it.

I also worked on my giant hexies that day, and now have a finished baby quilt.

IMG_3703

A couple of people have asked how giant the hexies are, that they’re about 1 3/4 inches on a side.  I’ve compared one here to a standard 1 inch and a 3/4 inch that I’m working on for another project.

Does anyone remember the Stay at Home Robin from a couple of years ago?  Well I finally (almost) finished mine for our UFO Challenge at Guild this month.

It’s only ‘almost’ finished, because I didn’t have enough binding!!  I probably made the binding a couple of years ago, and there’s no more fabric.   Sad smile   Does anyone have a small piece of this, or knows the name of a website where I might find it?  Unfortunately, I don’t have any of the selvedge, so I have no idea what it is.

I’m still keeping up with my goals for Gifted Gorgeousness.  I’ve even started on my May piece, but had to do some ripping.  Here’s April:

I can’t spend ALL my time sewing, so DH and I went in search of some wildflowers last weekend.

I just love that Spring is finally here!!!!!

Getting Caught Up and Purple FNWF

Yes!  I remembered to come back!

So in addition to all the SAL’s, QAL’s and BOM’s, I’ve been to two retreats in the past month.  One was Scrapbooking, and of course, one was Quilting.  I finished two flimsies at the retreat.  I still have to buy some border fabric for the S’Mittens quilt.

I also finished the yellow quilt that I shared in my last post.  This was actually designed to be a table topper, and the pattern shows small buttons on each of the prairie points.  I may decide to use it as a baby quilt instead, so buttons would not be appropriate.  Hmmm…..  This is an older Bunny Hill pattern, Buttons and Bows.

Earlier in March,  I had a birthday and received this lovely little project folder from my friend Maria.  It came with some lovely threads which I’ve already put to good use!

I also received a pretty little Valentine’s Day gift from my friend Di.  What an unexpected surprise.

Leanne and I did a one-on-one swap, and she spoiled me with Tilda fabrics.  She sent a small quilt, a pin cushion of her own design, some fabric, and some chocolates!  I haven’t even eaten all the chocolates yet.

I made a small quilt for her, along with a mug rug and a pin cushion.  I actually forgot to take a picture of the small quilt, so I’m hoping she’ll post a picture or send one to me.

Friday night found me stitching giant purple hexies.  The individual hexies are quick and easy, but they are really hard to handle to sew together at this size!  I think I need nine for a baby quilt that I have in mind.

Other than being sick twice in the past few weeks, I’ve spent almost all my time stitching.  Please don’t direct me to any more cute projects.  Or quilts.  Must go now.  There’s stitching to be done.

Happy Stitching….. Sunny
