Ringing in the New

I’m so far behind in blogging, that I don’t even know where to start.  I feel guilty, so I just keep putting it off.  Blogging is supposed to be fun, isn’t it?  So I’m moving forward and not going to try to cover November and December.

I had a very nice Christmas, although it was quiet with just Mr. QD and me.  I received some lovely gifts –hikey things, stitchy things, and travelly things.  Spellcheck does not like any of my adjectives, but I do!

We stayed home for Christmas, and then headed for the shore for a few days afterwards.    We had a fun time, photographing Snow Geese, Tundra Swans, White Pelicans, Great Blue Herons, and several Bald Eagles.

We walked on the beach, and we hiked.  We toured around a couple of small towns on the Eastern Shore, and found a fabulous new restaurant.  We also witnessed two fabulous sunsets over the water.

And now somehow, it’s a new year.  I’ve noticed that many bloggers are setting goals this year instead of making resolutions, and I really like that idea.  My most important sewing goal is to stop buying fabric, and use what I have!  Things have gotten out of control in the QD sewing room, and it’s time to take control. I didn’t even get any fabric for Christmas!

I’ve found a new group to help with my problem.  My name is Sunny, and I’m a Fabriholic.  There are many of us out there, and I’m finally ready to admit that I have a problem.  I’ve been composing a list of all my UFO’s, WIP’s, and projects that have never been started although I bought the fabric.  I’ll be posting the list soon,

Pop over to the Elven Garden if you’d like to learn more about Fabriholics anonymous, or perhaps join us?  I plan to do another post in the next day or two listing the rules, and publicly stating any changes I might be making for myself.

I’ve also found my new WORD for the new year.  Actually, I think it found me.  FOCUS.  I plan to focus on getting healthier, and while I won’t list specifics here, I do have a specific list.  I plan to focus on my home, and making it a nicer place.  I plan to focus on sewing more and buying less.

I think that’s enough for tonight.  I need sleep as I actually have to get up and go to work tomorrow!

  3. Hi Sunny I haven't blogged in 2 months either. I like your idea of finishing up UFO's and WIP's. I have so many I can't count them all. Good luck to you!

  6. Like you, I have decided that I need no new fabric and must just start using what I have in my stash. I started in September and it actually feels good! Gonna try to continue to make 2014 my year of no new fabric! I will have to check out fabrics anonymous.

  7. Perhaps we can support each other with these goals.......

    I made only two resolutions....

Make my bed every morning and get dressed complete with make-up....

In July if I have done well I might add something.

Hope you and Mr QD have a wonderful new year.

  9. You read my mind, Sunny. I had a personal goal of not buying fabric just because I want it and using my stash, which is large and has some beautiful fabrics. Happy New Year and good luck in keeping to your goal.

  12. OK--I have already failed your goal!!
I ordered some fabric--that I really really did not need--but it was on sale--does that count?????
Maybe when I decided not to buy fabric that took away my 'mojo'--cause I did have any last year!!!
I do like your word--guess that is kinda my thought for now too--to focus---

  17. I think we are both on the same diet. The no buy fabric diet. I liked the fabric when I bought, now I have to use even if I don't like it so much anymore! You can like any fabric in small doses!!

  18. Beautiful pics there Sunny, as always.
Good luck with the fabric diet... and I do think FOCUS is a great theme word for the year.
Looking forward to our birthday swap!! x

  19. A perfect Christmas Sunny! Like you I didn't get any fabric for Christmas and I am okay with that. My stash will last many lifetimes. I quilt shop twice a year and for the past few years my focus has been on batting, backing fabric and only a couple of pieces of new fabric. FOCUS is an excellent word for 2014. I started my focus on health in August and am now addicted to walking. Interesting you should say home focus, as this week I am working my way through the house, room by room making plans.

  20. Happy New Year! I am trying to use fabrics from my stash and only buy when I need borders or backing.
Focus is a good word for this year. I could do more of that myself. :0)

  21. Excellent word for this year. Although I bet you really are good at focusing - just not on one quilt at a time. :-)
