I love free WiFi!
Sitting in the Kansas City Airport, awaiting our flight to Baltimore. I decided to see if there might be free WiFi, and there is! I'm too cheap to pay for it for just an hour or so. We've had a good trip. Sunday morning, we had breakfast at the hotel, then did a little shopping and some geocaching. Although we don't geocache much very often anymore, we do like to find a few when we go to a new state. So now we can add Kansas to our list. We should have found a couple in Missouri this morning, but our timing didn't work out quite right.
Guess what I bought while we were shopping? Books, of course.
We also stopped at a Border's Book store, but they were closing down the following day, so there wasn't much to choose from. I did walk out with a novel and another book for under $10.00.
Then off to the birthday party we went. There was birthday cake and hors d'oeuvres.
Here's the birthday boy with his wife, followed by a pic of his big sis and little sis, and then all of the family who make the trip.
Flying home today, I got some awesome cloud pictures, from the topside!
And a not-so-great picture of the Chesapeake Bay bridge.
I worked on my cross stitch projects some more, and hope to get to some sewing on Tuesday. And don't forget that Friday Night Sew In is this Friday. Click on the button on my sidebar if you'd like more info. everyone is welcome to join!

We're in Kansas, Toto!
On Saturday morning, we got up long, long before the crack of dawn to drive an hour and a half to the nearest major airport, to catch a flight to Kansas City. We're here for a birthday party. A 90th birthday party for my fil. As you may know, flight plans do not make a lot of sense, so we flew from Baltimore to Atlanta on the first leg of our journey. I don't quite 'get it' when I look at a map of the US. Atlanta is NOT on the way to Kansas. However, I had a large credit to use on Delta, so we did what we had to do. We rewarded ourselves with this during our layover in Atlanta.
What an awesome reward! if you've never had pralines in Georgia, you should immediately schedule a visit. Or a layover in Atlanta. Better yet, if you can get to the riverfront in Savannah to try the pralines, you will think you're in heaven.
Then another flight to Kansas City. I hate flying - but it is a necessary evil. I did some cross stitching to pass the time, so it's not a total waste. First stop when we got to Kansas was a barbecue joint. We asked for advice at the car rental place, and were advised to try Oklahoma Joe's. It turns out Oklahoma Joe's grew out of the back of a gas station, which is still operating today in the front corner of the building and property. We waited in line for over an hour, and it was soooo worth the wait!
We each ordered something different, and then split it all to get a taste of everything. The brisket was my favorite.
Lest you think I only blog about food when I travel, after eating, hubby wanted to check into the hotel and take a short nap, but I prevailed, and we stopped at a Quilt Store on the way. Would you believe I walked out of there with NO fabric? They had a lot of batiks, which I don't care for, and a wonderful selection of reproductions, but I don't currently have a project in mind so couldn't decide on anything. Their fat quarters were outrageously priced so I wasn't even tempted by them. However, they did have a large book selection so I walked out with these. After all, I didn't want hubby to think it was a wasted trip!
Blogger is being very obstinate today, so you'll have to stand on your head to see the second book. But at least Blogger is here, so I won't get too upset.
The rest of the day was spent napping, stitching, and several hours of family time. Today is the big party and more family time. But if I don't get off here, we'll miss it all, so until later.........

Thank you Kate!
I received a wonderful squishy envelope from Kate a couple of days ago. We swapped some fabric to expand our flower gardens. My fingers have been itching to be stitching, and this is what I created tonight.
The fabric pieces that she sent me are perfect for making 8 petals, so I'll be able to make 6 petals, and 2 centers for other flowers. The colors are perfect to blend in with what I already have, and they're the tiniest little prints. I just love them. Thanks so much for the swap, Kate. If you don't have yous yet, they should be there any time now. I made it to the Post Office a couple of days later than you did.
At lunchtime today, I reallllly needed to get out of the office, so I decided a little retail therapy was in order. I went to a nearby Antique flea market to do some treasure hunting. In a very short time, I was able to scoop up these treasures:
This is a tiny little 'bag'. Not sure what I'll do with it, but it was too sweet to pass up.
I have just the perfect project in mind for this monogrammed hankie, and the buttons? Well I just can't pass up nice buttons. I will find a good use for them.
Thanks for you kind comments and emails from yesterday's post. I had to deal with something very difficult today, but I made it through, and I'm feeling much better tonight. Friends, flowers, and new buttons can help ease the pain.

Share some joy?
So, I've been a little down lately, and I'm thinking of making myself a small quilt with short, cute or inspirational sayings. I saw this one yesterday. Choose Joy. or how about My soul is fed with needle and thread.
Do you have anything to share? Tell me what your favorite flower is, too!

Weekend Progress..
I'm happy to say I got a lot done over the weekend. Wait 'til you see these pictures.
First up is this beautiful cross-stitch.
oops, this is for a a swap, too!
Well how about this one?
Oh No! that one is a gift.
This is my favorite. As I've mentioned before, I'm in the Block Swap Adventure, and I'm collecting basket blocks. I have 4 very beautiful and very different baskets so far. I've been thinking of making a block too, and this is what I decided on. I still have to fill out the 12" block (it's about 12" 'tall' now, so most of what I'll be adding will be to the sides. Or maybe this will become a wall hanging?
Yep, I'm definitely addicted to hexies. These are 1/2" on a side.
And now I must fold some laundry and go to bed. Nighty Night! Sunny

Unfortunately, it's for a swap, so that's all I can show right now.
I also worked on this cross-stitch. My QADD is kicking in again.

Spring has sprung
It's official. As evidenced by:
But more importantly by:
But more importantly by:
We took Mr. QD's daughter and granddaughter to a nearby lake today, where we took turns with the kayaks. They seemed to really enjoy kayaking, so we'll be taking some more family outings. Next time we'll pack a picnic lunch.
Happy Mother's Day to all you mothers.

If it's Wednesday....
It must be time for some flowers.
I'm swapping some fabric with my new friend, Kate from Oz, so we'll each be able to add to our gardens with a variety of new-to-us fabrics. She mentioned that she wanted all her flowers to be different, so for the price of a little postage, we'll each be able to expand our selections! And make a new friend in the process. Win-Win. Ooh, new fabric - I can't wait!

Flower Baskets
I guess I missed May Day, so instead of May baskets, I'll show some flower baskets. Up first is the block I received from Colleen for April's Block Swap Adventure. Isn't this awesome? The flowers are wool, and very nicely done.
Sorry, I'm too tired to fight with Blogger tonight. It wants the basket rotated, so rotated it is. I continue to be amazed each month when I get my basket block. They're all different, but they go together beautifully. It's exciting to add to my blocks each month.
Hubby brought home real flowers a few days ago. I'll have to try to photograph them in better light, because these aren't very flattering. I love red geraniums and he love Gerbera daisies.
I've been working on swaps and exchanges, and I'm still working with my mini hexies. I'm making major progress with the hexies, so you'll be seeing them soon.
Wonky stars for the Quick Christmas Bee
I'll leave you with this photo, which represents an extremely rare event.
I've never seen the three of them this close to each other. The middle one, Zippy, who is now 4, has never been accepted by the small orange cat, and I can't believe that they're all on the same piece of furniture at the same time.
