Need Advice Please

Several months ago, I joined the Name Game Swap #2.  I made a lovely little quilt for my partner, and then I waited and waited to get a quilt of my own.  Eventually, I got an email from my partner telling me that life got in the way, and she would be very late but would eventually send my quilt.  I understand that life does sometimes get in the way, and that there are certain risks when swapping.  So I decided to make my own quilt.

So I incorporated all my ideas, and I really don’t like it.  I totally lost interest, and it’s just dull and uninteresting.  Any ideas for redeeming it?  Or should I just bury it on a shelf somewhere.  It’s quilted and bound, so maybe some embroidery?  Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

For the past couple of years, I’ve been joining One Flower Wednesday, but I’m going to take a break for awhile, and make yoyos instead!  I started making some many months ago for Yoyoville, and somehow they got pushed aside and forgotten.  So here’s to Yoyo Wednesday!

What have you been up to lately?  Are you being kind to yourself?

  1. Well, it looks so cute you shouldn't put it aside. I have no idea how you should finish it! I stink when it comes to making decisions like that, but I hope to see it finished soon:)

I love the yoyos! I would love to learn to make them. They seem like something my kids would enjoy making.

  3. Me too! I think it's lovely, like Shez says it maybe what it represents that is stopping you liking it. How about some tiny beads for the eyes on the cats. Hugs Linda x

  4. It is so disappointing when your partner doesn't come through with a swap.
I don't know what your preferences are but can you add some colourful buttons or ric-rac? Maybe some hand quilting in bright threads?
I think it already looks lovely but you are the one who has to like it.
    Good luck.

  5. I agree with Shez. It is sweet just as it is but probably reminds you of disappointment when you see it. I never join swaps cause I am afraid my life complications will prevent me from meeting my obligation!

  6. I like the idea of bead eyes possibly. Maybe a cloud in the upper right.

  7. I never have good ideas, Sunny, but maybe you could applique a tiny little mouse on the quilt to show or on top of the clothesline to show what the cats are looking at. I'll miss you on OFW. Have you made all the pink flowers you need already?

  8. I'm fascinated with embellishments. throw some beads on there, lace, maybe some shiny and shimmering threads...go wild with it.

  9. I think its a cute design but maybe the background is too empty, I would put a buzy border on it.

  10. I think it really cute - but if you don't like it maybe join the swap again and give it away. Maybe this time your partner will not be so busy. Or give it as a gift. As for additional elements. I like the idea of going crazy with embellishments. Maybe seed beads in the grass, and flowers. Sometimes when you don't like something it's hard to put more effort into it. I sometimes (Like a LOT of times) put things away for a while and then love it when I bring it back out.

  11. I think it is very cute too! I like the idea of bead eyes, and a cloud~ how about a little bird sitting on the post to interest the kitties? ;-) Have some fun!

  12. I think it is really cute too Sunny , maybe if you add some embroidery here and there , some blades of grass , possibly put a bird on the clothesline , how about a basket at the base of the clothesline with one trailing out ,hey the possiblities are endless . I think just afew little details on the cats , with beads as was suggested would make a difference . Don't put it on a shelf though ,it is too cute to get buried.

  14. The quilt seems to be a showcase of different techniques and you have done a really nice job with that. I might put some echo quilting around the sun, a face on the kitties and texture in the grass. The cheeky mouse idea is fun, too.

  15. Bummer that your swap partner didn't come through. I like the little quilt, but I was thinking some shine and shimmer on it, too. Or maybe embroider a little saying in the sky part. It's really really cute...love the kitties and the hexie flowers!

  16. I like your little quilt. I think it needs an embroidered or appliqued quote or message on it. I like your yoyo's. I bought a house and can't wait to move in, that's what I've been up to. :)

  17. I think it's a sweet little quilt. The other commenters all had good ideas. Maybe set it aside for awhile and something will come to you.
