The Company Picnic

I live in a world where the company picnic is typically a pot-luck affair at a local park.  I am currently working for a large global company (although as a temp) and today's company picnic was held at Hershey Park.  DH and I don't usually go to amusement parks because A.) we're cheap frugal, and B.) I don't ride on the rides!  I don't find feeling terrified and/or nauseated a fun way to spend my day.  However, the price was right today - FREE! - so off to Hershey we went.

Hershey is known for its roller coasters, which we watched from the safety of the tram and the monorail

A ride to the top of the Kissing Tour gave us a scenic view of the park

We also took in a show at the Aqua Theater, and were treated to a catered picnic lunch at one of the pavilions.

And a trip to Hershey Park would not be complete without a ride through Chocolate World, where you can see how the wonderful chocolate confections are made.

Of course, the Chocolate World ride ends at the entrance to a lovely shop filled with overpriced souvenirs and CHOCOLATE!  Because our outing had not cost us a penny up until then, we allowed ourselves some overpriced chocolate.  It tastes better when you buy it at Hershey!!!

Contentment is a bowl of Hershey Kisses........Sunny

  1. Oh that sounds like a lot of fun! I've never been there before, but I'd love to go when the kids are all a little older (ie. everyone is potty-trainted).

Thanks for sharing the pics! Looks like you had a great time.

  2. Looks like you had a fun day! I still remember going there for our 9th grade school trip. My cousin works for Hershey and they are given bags of chocolate to take home and everyone has bowls of chocolate on their desks.

  3. That looks like fun! I only ever worked one place where we had company picnics - they were great fun. But never anything like that!

  4. I'm with you Sunny.
    I hate the rides too.
I'm always the bag and coat holder when we go places.
Sounds like you had a great day anyway.....especially the chocolate!!

  5. Woo-hoo! What a great place for a company picnic! If we had to choose which would it be? quilting-chocolate-quilting-chocolate? Can't decide! LOL

  6. Wow! Glad you took advantage of that picnic, well not sure you could call it a picnic, haha. Pictures were great. We had a Hersey's plant near the town were we lived in CA but they closed it and moved it to Mexico! My boss at the bank had a whole drawer full of candy for us to enjoy - her husband worked at Hersey's! Fun times. Have a great Sunday!

  7. Sounds like fun. I don't like roller coasters at all but I do love chocolate!!

  8. What a great way to go to the Fun Park... For free...
I would much rather have the chocolate too than the ride in the roller coaster..

  9. That roller coaster looks scary! We don't go to amusement parks very often either. Like you the price is high and so are the rides lol.

I've never been to Hershey but I do have a soft spot for them. They have a boarding school for underprivileged kids where Hershey pays for everything. Housing, schooling, and counseling to make sure these kids have a good start and education. Not many companies do that.

  10. Hershey bar now that says U.S.A. loud and clear. We have heard of Hershey bars from way back , I thing the Americans gave them out during WW2 in Japan ( knowledge from the movies ) Didn't know they had themed parks though , glad you enjoyed your day.

  11. I don't know why you did not ride that rolly coaster?????
and to end the day with chocolate--right on girl friend!!!
    Hugs, Di and that cat!!!!

  12. What a fun day! We went to Hershey, stayed in the hotel, enjoyed the gardens and the factory tours 2 summers ago. A lot of good memories.

  13. Oh, I guess I'm the opposite of you. I'd much rather ride a fast moving rollercoaster than dangle above it all from a "string" or sway in a tower overlooking everything. Kinda makes me queezy thinking about it. But I should clarify something, I can't do any kind of "spin" rides anymore either. Looks like you had a great time. I always enjoy your photo journeys!
